Proposed Itinerary for the OBC 2020 Exploragon-Again Tour 30 Oct – 1 Nov

This itinerary should not be considered THE plan for the trip. We may all decide to go totally off the rails and get crazy.  This is something to start with though.

As usual, we’ll be making a lot of gas stops.  Please do a favor and fill up at any opportunity.  Also, having tire chains is a MUST for this trip.  If you don’t have chains, please don’t come.

Once again, the plan is for leisurely motoring.  Leave each place about 9:00AM each morning and be at the next location by mid-afternoon.

Day 1.  Friday 30 October

This is kind of a long leg.  190 miles according to the googles.  Depart from the China Wok in Creswell about 9:00AM-ish.  You can fill up at the Arco in Creswell if needed.

South on I-5 to Canyonville (gas stop) where we will pick up Douglas County Hwy 1/Tiller Train Hwy/Hwy 227. This becomes Hwy 62 and takes us to Prospect.  On our way into Prospect, it might be nice to have lunch at Joseph Steward State Recreation Area on Lost Creek Lake.

Camping for day 1

  • Joseph Stewart State Recreation Area on Lost Creek Lake
  • Find a place around Lost Creek Lake
  • Prospect Airport.  I will be checking about us camping at the airport at Prospect.  It’s a very pretty site and hopefully they’ll remember the favor they owe.

Day 2. Saturday 31 October

Depart from Prospect when we’re ready and head north on Hwy 62 to Union Creek.  From there continue on Hwy 62 to Crater Lake.  There is a good chance that Crater Lake will be closed due to snow by then, but who knows.   If it is open – great!  If it is closed, we’ll regroup to find something to see, but the destination is Hwy 230 to Hwy 138, to Hwy 97 to Hwy 58 to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway up to Wickiup Reservior where we stayed last time.

Day 3. Sunday 1 November

Depart from Wickiup Reservoir when we get moving and head home along Hwy 58.

We have time to discuss the route between now and then.  In the meantime, get your snow chains.  You MUST have chains for this trip.
